Memento Mori
Momento Mori, acrylic, 36x36”
I started this piece in 2018 when I hit rock bottom at my ad job. This piece was to remind me of Momento Mori (an object serving as a warning or reminder of death, such as a skull) and it pushed me harder in life because it reminded me to work as hard as you can because death is coming. Most people would find it strange to have death as a motivation to work harder in life but it works for me. It reminded me that advertising wasn’t all that mattered in life and as corny as it is, that life moves on. It reminded me to keep up with my family and my closest friends and to not feel so sorry about myself because there are other people in the world that would die to be in advertising. Whenever I can take a moment to myself, amidst the busy life of NYC, I try to remember Momento Mori more.
